Philadelphia Lifestyle Blogger Retreats to Lake Harmony in the Pocono Mountains

October 15, 2018

I love city living, but after the contestant hustle and bustle of my workweeks, I was in much need of some R&R. Since it’s our busier season, my husband and I didn’t have time to take a more extended vacation, and we just needed something for a couple of days. Since we were looking for a quick getaway, we decided to head up to the Pocono Mountains where our friends have a quaint cottage located near Lake Harmony. The drive is less than two hours from Philadelphia, and it was exactly what we needed.

Trying to relax my mind from thinking about everything I needed to get done and just to “let go” is really hard for me. I’m sure it is for everyone, but I am one person who just doesn’t know how to relax. However, as soon as we arrived and laid our eyes on their cozy cottage, we instantly fell in love. I personally was in awe of how tranquil the surroundings were. The cottage was built in 1940 with a picture perfect large front porch and a stone fireplace ideal for those cold evenings. My mind was finally at ease, and I was ready for a rejuvenating weekend with the husband.

The cottage was everything you would want in a cottage. The accommodations include:

  • Three bedrooms and two bathrooms that can comfortably accommodate six guests
  • Front porch and back patio
  • Stone fireplace
  • Kitchen with a large communal dining table
  • Wi-Fi (for those who must stay connected)
  • Parking
  • A few blocks from Split Rock Clubhouse
  • Nearby outdoor activities; hiking, summer water activities, water park, local bars, and restaurants

With our time being limited, we needed to take in as much as possible, while of course, making sure we added some relaxation into the mix. There are so many amazing activities to keep you entertained that you are guaranteed to have a fabulous time.

We weren’t able to do everything, but as we were exploring, we discovered some fun things to do while staying at the cottage.

Restaurants & Bars

My husband and I love exploring local cafés, restaurants/taverns, and trying different cuisine and drinks along the way.

Split Rock Lodge – The closest to the cottage but was closed due to a wedding. We took a look at the menu, and it had some great options. A great spot to hang out.

Nick’s Lake House – A perfect place to either sit indoor or outdoor. We started the day sitting outside overlooking the lake, but temperatures dropped, so we moved indoors. A variety of drink options and your everyday tavern type food.

Piggy’s Restaurant – By far my favorite breakfast spot in town. The restaurant is small but has a big personality. Be ready to see piggies of all kinds throughout the restaurant. They are cash only and be sure to get there early. I personally loved my meal; I had one pancake, eggs, spinach, and some house potatoes. DELICIOUS!

Terra-Cottage Café – another great breakfast spot if Piggy’s is full. They are literally across the street from one another.

Shenanigans – We decided to have a nightcap here. We loved it so much we stayed for a couple. It is a fabulous bar with great staff.

Boulder View Tavern – Perfect spot for any meal or if you just want to hang out on the deck. A very quaint place overlooking the lake. Super yummy and we highly recommend it.

Louie’s Prime Steak House – We didn’t dine here but another alternative for dinner if you are looking for a more “fine dining” establishment.

Outdoor Activities

Hawk Falls Trail – hike within a forest trail to the 25-foot-high waterfall

Boulder Field – a field filled with boulders more than 20,000 years old. Absolutely no vegetation within the filed.

Split Rock Country Club – Great for golfing

Split Rock Resort Indoor Water Park – a perfect activity for the whole family

Pocono Raceway

Plenty of water activities on the lake

If you make accommodations during the winter, you can check out their two major ski areas. One is the Big Boulder and Jack Frost.

When you’re always going a thousand miles a minute, nothing beats a quick get-a-way. It doesn’t always need to be extravagant, but far enough away for you to unwind and recharge yourself. My husband and I had a fabulous stay at our friend’s cottage and cannot wait to come back.

If you are in close proximity to the Pocono Mountains, you must check out my friend’s cottage. It will be your favorite quick getaway!
