Philly Fashion Blogger’s Favorite White Button-Down Blouses/Popovers

July 16, 2018

To me, a timeless classic look that is never going out of style has to be a white button-down/popover blouse. I’m sure many of you might think a classic white blouse might seem a bit boring; however, to me, it screams “she’s polished” without even trying. And the best part: There are unlimited possibilities you have when it comes to styling this staple!

To say it’s a year-round wardrobe staple is an understatement. A classic white blouse has to be the easiest article of clothing that can be worn with just about anything. I like to think of it as my blank canvas that sets the stage for me to accessorize my look. Whether you dress it up with a pair of tailored dress pants or dress it down with jeans, it is a timeless piece that you can never go wrong with.

A quick fashion tip: find a good tailor. The number one thing that makes or breaks an outfit is a great fit. If clothes look too baggy, you will never have that polished look. If you don’t have the luxury of custom made blouses, no worries. The trick is to find a couple of blouses that fit you in the areas that cannot be tailored; length and of course making sure it fits in your bust area. Once you find a couple of these gems, take them into a tailor, and just like that, you have an entirely custom-made white blouse.

There are a variety of great classic white blouses on the market, and I wanted to share with you some of my favorites.

Twirl Longline Shirt by O’Neill

A perfect effortless look. I love how the shirt flows with the extra length in the back. It runs true to size. I wear this shirt with jeans.

Curved Yoke Dobby Shirt by Caslon

Perfect feminine blouse with the billowed sleeves and added detail throughout the blouse. I have worn this shirt both formal and informal. Does fit true to size.

Stretch Woven Shirt by Halogen

One of my trusty closet staples. Extremely comfortable for all-day wear. Great quality fabric that stretches in all the right places. It does run larger, I went down one size – but be careful if you have a larger bust (you might want to stick to a larger size) as it can be easily tailored.

Riffle Popover Shirt by J.Crew

I love the ruffled band collar as it gives your look some added detail. This shirt is 100% cotton, which makes it very breathable. Runs true to size.

Stretch Perfect Bodysuit by J.Crew

If you had to pick one blouse, I would 100% say this one. Very comfortable and I love the bodysuit as it keeps the shirt from bunching or untucking. I feel super confident in this shirt and have it in other colors as well. I went up a size as my bust was too large for my normal size.

Draped Classic Shirt by Treasure & Bond

Chic, sleek blouse that feels like you are wearing pajamas! The shirt does run small, go up a size or two. I love the length and how thin the fabric is.

Draped Oversize Boyshirt by Madewell

Another very casual, laid-back blouse that is very lightweight. Sleeves are a little short for my long arms, but I roll them up for a more casual look. The blouse does run large!

Perfect Shirt by Ann Taylor

A true crisp button down! I love the stretchy fabric and how it holds together all day. It is a great fit and runs true to size. I feel like a star in this shirt.

Classic Button Down by Vince

Another crisp button down that is a great quality. The bust area is a little tight, went up a size and had it tailored.

Tuxedo Dress Shirt by Theory

I know this isn’t your typical button-down blouse, but I LOVE it! Even with the length, it is still the classic, elegant look I love. I love the feel of the fabric. The comfort is great as it is meant to be oversized. It runs true to size and is a great addition to your closet.

I genuinely think a classic white blouse belongs in the same category as owning a little black dress. It’s a must-have, and I promise you won’t regret owning one (or two) of them. I’ve shared with you some of my chic, never have failed me white blouses/popovers and now it’s your turn. Do you have one that stands out from others? Please share. No one ever said it’s a bad thing to have too many timeless pieces.
