Getting Back into Fitness

I completely understand that getting back into fitness can be hard. Really hard! There can be a number of reasons why you had to put fitness on hold. Trust us, we know life happens and whatever the reason, know that you are not alone. I am currently going through this right now. I had been sick for over a week and not being able to work out. AHHHH…It’s killing me and completely throwing off my routine.

When you’re thrown a curve ball and you break routine, what happens? Motivation slowly goes out the window, you lose focus and you just don’t know if you can get back to where you were… blah blah blah. However, you start to realize that working out was super beneficial. Which leads to the main question, how do we get back into fitness?

First, you know the benefits of working out and you loved the fact it truly did wonders for you. Therefore, really ask yourself why you loved it and the reasons it benefited you. I did this and that was the moment I was able to come up with a list of reasons why I love fitness and making sure I add it to my daily routine.

Here is the list I came up with:

  • Overall health
  • Gives me more energy
  • Makes me feel good
  • Keeps me motivated
  • Helps me to remain balanced
  • Fuels my soul
  • Helps me to clear my head

What does your list look like? Do you see similarities with my list? Now that you have finished your list the next step is to start planning your workouts for the week. I find it is always best to start out in a new week, either a Sunday or Monday. Planning your workouts can help you stay motivated and give you something to look forward to. It’s super important to set a specific day for a routine to keep you on track. It sets up your commitment and helps keep you on track and more importantly, helps you get into a regular routine. If you get off track, do that workout you have planned for the next day. Be sure to reestablish your routine weekly, this will help keep your goals and commitment top of mind.

This should give you a good starting point to get yourself back into fitness. Remember it takes a while to get back into a normal routine and it doesn’t happen overnight. Continuously remind yourself to not beat yourself up if you don’t stick to your plan 100%. As everything will come back to you in time, just like it once did. Now, grab your notebook and write down the reasons why you love fitness and the benefits it provides you. Leave your positive thoughts below and start motivating others to do the same!
