Women in Business: Dress To Impress

October 26, 2015

The other day I was running through the streets of Philadelphia roughly on mile 5 (so I was looking really fresh) and a strategic partner of mine stopped me and she said, “Wow Julie, it is nice to see you are a normal person.” It took me off guard and I asked what she meant and she responded, “I have never seen you out of a dress and heels ever!” It made me giggle and it got me thinking about why I love dressing professional daily.

I am a huge believer that you dress the part you want – not the part you have. I am 5’11” and my closet is full over high heels, dresses, and skirts. Of course, my clothes have not always been this way, I was an athlete in college and I pretty much wore team gear every day: tennis shoes, my hair in a ponytail with no makeup. Since I was a freshman in high school I loved the idea of becoming a professional woman and started slowly adding statement pieces to my wardrobe until I finally had an entire closet filled.

It’s not right, but people judge books by their cover and you can have the best personality, and be smart but when you go out in public like you just rolled out of bed; you’re going to be judged. With a society that is so judgmental, I am not sure why people think it is okay to present themselves in such a negative way. Even if you want to be comfy we now have fashion-forward workout attire. It doesn’t take much to present you in a positive light.

In my case, I feel truly empowered and unstoppable women in business when I dress up and wear heels. I tower over everyone, I am memorable and it seems I have more professionals speaking to me because they assume I know what I am talking about. Fake it until you feel it! When you walk out of your door you NEVER know who you might meet; you could meet your future signification other, future boss, run into someone from your past or when you might be interviewed on national television. Always dress in a way that makes you feel confident and on top of the world. And dressing professionally doesn’t need to be expensive either. The Internet is home to a ton of deals!

When your clothes and shoes fit right your confidences soars. Put the best YOU in front of the world and show the world how great you are!

You’ll look amazing, you’ll smile with confidence and people will notice.
